EDFC and CAMEO 2019 Survey

Coast Women in Business invites you to participate in an important survey. The Economic Development Financial Corporation (EDFC) and California Association for Micro Enterprise Opportunity (CAMEO) have launched a survey that will help EDFC develop a strong Local Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (LEE).

Rural economies are particularly dependent on small business development and need a supportive environment. Rural areas need to support their indigenous entrepreneurial resources with what these small businesses really need – a strong local entrepreneurial ecosystem with business training and management skills, small amounts of capital, access to markets, an environment in which to thrive, and policies that encourage entrepreneurship.

An LEE is made up of 5 Cs:

  • Coaching – training and individual consulting
  • Capital – money
  • Connections – to markets and networks
  • Climate – regulations and policies
  • Culture – how acceptable is entrepreneurship

When these pieces are in place, local economies can foster small business owners and create a sustainable, self-reliant, and thriving local economy.

This survey will help identify strengths and gaps in Mendocino County’s business ecosystem and provide information to be incorporated into Mendocino County’s strategic 5-year plan. There are 2 versions of the survey – one for business owners and one for stakeholders (people who may not be stakeholders, but are interested in small, locally owned business). There are long and short versions of each.

The survey was developed by a group of community stakeholders and is a follow-up to the January 31, 2019 economic summit.

The links are below; deadline to respond is September 30, 2019. We want as many voices as possible.
